501 Wonder Women: Dana Stewart Elected First Female President of White County Farm Bureau
Deep in the hill country of northern White County lies a typical purebred cattle farm with an atypical farmer. Dana Martin Stewart grew up one of three daughters of David and Rita Martin, with five generations before her working with cattle and often other agricultural crops, from strawberries to soybeans, hogs and chickens. Stewart and her sisters were treated the same as their male cousins, learning the value of hard work. They drove tractors, hauled hay, fixed fence, tended to cows and did whatever was needed on the family farm. According to Stewart, she and her sisters did not know they could or should be treated differently because they were girls. . READ MORE

Arkansas Farm Bureau Selects Leaders, Sets Policy
HOT SPRINGS — Rich Hillman of Carlisle was re-elected as Arkansas Farm Bureau’s president and Mike Freeze of Little Rock will continue as vice president for the agriculture advocacy organization. Both were elected Friday morning at Farm Bureau’s 88th Annual Convention at the Hot Springs Convention Center. Delegates also elected six board members during the final day of the meeting, including three new board members. READ MORE
Two White County families inducted into Arkansas Century Farm Program
Gov. Asa Hutchinson joined with Arkansas Secretary of Agriculture Wes Ward this month to induct the families into the Arkansas Century Farm Program. The department started the Century Farm Program in 2012 to “highlight the contributions of these families to the agriculture industry, as well as their overall contributions to our state.” READ MORE
